Kara & Jeremy were married this last November in Buffalo, Minnesota. The unusually warm fall weather allowed me to take some great outdoor shots along with photographer Eddie Mulkeen. The church had beautiful stained glass so I also took advantage of the indoor opportunities. Kara & Jeremy, who are high-school sweethearts, had a lot of fun as well.

I recently attended Found// The art of wedding exhibit in Minneapolis curated by local wedding professionals. I'd have to say the most impressive part of the exhibit (aside from the Cocoa & Fig treats and Crispin Cider) was Tara LaTour's handmade wedding dresses. Amongst them was the dress below...

... The other dresses were equally impressive and really pushed the boundaries of traditional wedding attire. There was a really awesome slow-motion video clip with different bride and groom interactions which blew me away. (If you know who it was by, please let me know! I loved it). As for the rest of the exhibit, I was slightly disappointed there wasn't more to look at. The photographs were beautiful but not exactly what I had in mind for fine art. The networking was great -I met some cool, creative people which is always fun.

As I prepare for the upcoming wedding season in Minnesota I'm really looking for new, exciting trends. I'm trying to learn everything I can about the industry so I can improve my work. I can't wait to see what's next!

Holly & Johnny were married at the Profile Event Center in Minneapolis. Even though they were in the middle of the city, they wanted to capture their love of nature and the outdoors on their wedding day. This worked out perfectly with the unusually warm October weather. I had a fun time scouting out some more natural locations on the University of Minnesota Campus and the Stone Arch Bridge, and a fantastic time shooting this fall wedding! Thank you for having me!

This wedding took place at Dellwoood Hills Golf Club in Minnesota on October 8th, 2011. I had the pleasure of working with fellow photographer Jeremiah Satterthwaite. The weather could not have been more perfect for an October wedding in Minnesota. So far it's one of my favorite weddings visually because of the landscape, the fact that it was outdoors and the use of sparklers. It's always fun to have new challenges and I love playing with light, so it worked out well!

Herlene & Gus' travel-themed wedding took place this summer at Hotel Whitcomb in San Francisco, CA. In a collaboration with San Francisco photographer Kris Blais, we took on this grand wedding with ease. I am extremely familiar with the area after working in San Francisco for two years. We ventured around Embarcadero and the piers before ending the evening back at the hotel. It was totally worth the flight from Minnesota.

Some non-photo related projects I've been working on in celebration of Halloween & fall...

This one was fun - apple infused spirits made for a nice cocktail. With some recently picked Regent & Honey Gold apples from Minnesota Harvest I made Regent infused vodka & Honey Gold infused Captain Morgan. Mixed with fresh pressed cider, these drinks are delicious!

Another apple recipe I thought I'd try -Apple crisp cheesecake. It was delicious and yes, we already ate it all.

As the summer comes to an end I am trying to hold onto every bit of autumn in Minnesota. After two years in Northern California, it's hard not to get excited about the changing colors, cool wind, and smell of baked foods! It should be interesting to see how I handle real winter again.

Which leads me to Briana... She needed some professional photos done for her business profiles. I used the opportunity to take more creative outdoor professional photos and to have a little fun around Loring Park in Minneapolis while the weather is still nice!

You may be asking yourself what Heather's been up to lately? To summarize I have been extremely busy with photographing bands at the Rickshaw Stop in San Francisco, a two-day wedding expedition in an Francisco and Burlingame and a series of different events. These are a few pictures I captured when I volunteered to photograph the annual Juvenile Diabetes Spring Fling fundraiser in Half Moon Bay, CA. At the Ritz Carlton dozens of women attended a luncheon where they were encouraged to shop different tables featuring high-fashion brands and local small businesses to benefit the cause. The final pictures shows a local boys choir singing for the guests.

Aside from the winter holidays I have been keeping busy working on several projects all at the same time. I will be posting new pictures from each of these projects shortly.

In December I worked with photographer Jeremy Montemayor on his 944 Magazine Spread. We worked at 25 Lusk and the W Hotel in San Francisco for two days, shooting five models and three designers of Project Runway fame. The 944 Magazine featuring the three designers; Christopher Collins, Michael Costello and Mondo Guerra and Jeremy's photos came out in January and is currently on news stands.

On December 4th I had the pleasure of photographing Lexie & Bill's wedding in Concord, CA. Lexie is an excellent make-up artist who frequently helps our photography team out, so it was nice to finally repay the favor to her by photographing her beautiful wedding. I am really happy with how it turned out. Pictures will be posted soon!

At the end of December I met up with fellow wedding photographer Jennifer Whalen in New York City for two days of wandering the streets and taking in the sights.

I just moved into a new apartment and have been busy with all the edits I have to do. I have been able to sneak in some play time with photographers Quan Pham and Jeremy though. Just recently we met at Twin Peaks for some night photography. We also got some cool pictures in the Castro. I can't wait to post them!

I'm sorry for keeping you in the dark for so long! It is well worth the wait though!

Neighborhood update -Oakland, CA

I thought it would be interesting for those of you not in Oakland to see what I have been seeing in the past week in my neighborhood. These are just quick snapshots I took with my cell-phone camera as I walked to and from the train station. You may or may not have heard about the recent trial involving former BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) Police Officer Johannes Mehserle and murder victim Oscar Grant. It's a huge deal with the locals because it's all about race-relations. Businesses and residents of downtown Oakland are preparing for the worst when the verdict is read. Businesses are boarded up and it seems that everyone has "Justice for Oscar Grant" signs posted. It will be interesting to see the public's reaction to the verdict but I really hope people use common sense and avoid the anticipated Riot.

For those of you who aren't familiar with Project Runway, Christopher Straub was a contestant in the sixth season of the show and competed against several other fashion designers in front of numerous famous judges. Ultimately he placed 5th in the competition. I had the pleasure of meeting the fellow Minnesotan at the Visage Fashion Show in San Francisco, then doing our own fashion shoot with him and photographer Jeremy Montemayor the next day. We had a lot of fun with the models at the Legion of Honor in San Francisco. The dresses were beautiful and the girls were amazing!

I had the pleasure of photographing Joshua David and his team at the Supperclub this past Friday. During his act, David was peirced with several large hooks and then suspended by the skin on his back. For what may seem an incredibly painful and gory scene, it was actually quite beautiful. David showed no signs of pain as he dangled from the wires attached to the ceiling, or when he piercd his own face using a large rose-tipped needle. His team members followed suit by peircing their faces with rose-tipped needles in front of the amazed Supperclub dinner crowd.

The Landfill, Berkeley

A couple weeks ago I visited Berkeley's "Landfill" to help fellow photographer Kristen Grundy do a shoot with her model, Pi. From what I can tell, the Landfill is a piece of land made of industrial wreckage that jets out into the bay. We're talking about concrete, metal and a lot of other random building materials that have been taken over by vegetation. A bunch of vagrants have taken over the land to create a home for themselves, but artists and hikers can also be found here.

I have to warn you, I had entirely too much fun at the most recent "Art Attack" at Supperclub. Some of the photos did turn out... well, a little risky. I'm being modest with what I post here, but you probably don't want to view this work on your company computer.

These first few photos I took with the assistance of fellow photographer Dot, who had a make-shift studio set up in the entryway of the club. I think the idea of taking photos of the performers and club-goers in this kind of setting is a genius idea because you can't recreate the energy and excitement of a club in a real studio. It also gives people an opportunity to come out of their shell and have their photo taken.

No Sex in the Champagne Room

I frequently distribute my business card while working at the Supperclub in San Francisco. If you have come to my blog to view pictures I may have taken of you, shoot me an email or check out the Supperclub website. I finally got access to the website's uploader and have been going crazy trying to add pictures from the last two months.

Just inside the doors of the Supperclub a man gets a tattoo drawn on his calf by a professional artist. No, that buzzing isn't the sound of his needle, but the beginning of the Supperclub's "No Sex in the Champagne Room" party.

You might have noticed lately I've been playing around with the format and background of my blog. I'm a bit of a perfectionist and want to get it right, so I apologize if the text is hard to read and it looks different every time you sign on. I promise this is only temporary.

I think I'm going to try to make my own template when I get a chance, but I'm still trying to figure things out!

I have more pictures from the Supperclub I am going to upload this afternoon. This past Wednesday (11/18) they sponsored a fashion show for the Heartbeat Amplifier. It was pretty cool to see. If you haven't been to the Supperclub already, I'd recomend it for a nice meal and awesome after party.

Friday October 16 was my first evening as a photo intern at the Supperclub in San Francisco, CA. It just so happened to be their Four Year Anniversary Party. If was really exciting and a lot of fun to work. I wanted to post a few of my favorites from that night, as well as from other nights that I shot there and will be shooting there. I did this collection over three years ago and it is still one of my favorite things to look at. Nightmares was inspired by a Roger Ballen exhibit titled Shadow Chamber I saw at the Minnesota College of Art & Design.

Lake Merritt

I spent the day walking around Lake Merritt and this is what I found. A lot of birds, some pretty sights, and the local homeless shelter...

This is the homeless shelter... a hand dug ditch under a sidewalk. It appears that the city locked some tunnels in this area to prevent the homeless population from staying there, and the result was that the homeless moved underneath the concrete, just ten feet away.

It's obvious that people are still staying here in the tunnels.

Mandy and I worked together on two shoots for some simple modeling pictures she wanted. I know it's a deviation from what I normally do, but we were both pleased with the results.

Camp Ripley, Minnesota. Monday June 8, 2009. During the drum practice, two soldiers are positioned under the black hawk, awaiting its arrival. They get one opportunity to hook the drum to the helicopter as it passes. This technique is vital for fighting forest fires, where instead of a drum, the National Guard attaches a large bucket of water to be dropped on the affected area. Photo by Heather Rudloff.

Aaron and Diane had a traditional wedding with a special touch: live music performed by the wedding party. Their friends and family played a series of bells and the bride even briefly stepped away to sing a song in celebration of her marriage to Aaron.
